Relive Operation Crucible when the Luftwaffe Blitzed Sheffield for nine hours in December 1940. Finishes 20-30 with laying of flowers outside former Marples Pub in Fitzalan Square. Donation of £6.

THURSDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER
A walk round the site of Sheffield’s oldest hospital -the former Royal Infirmary of 1797- with its history depicted in old illustrations and photographs.Please note that because of redevelopment it will not now be possible to enter the site itself but plenty to see from the outside and we will looking at other interesting buildings in the vicinity. Duration 12-00-13-30 meet outside Montgomery House Dental Practise- towards Town and below Infirmary Road Tramstop.
SATURDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER
3 x 45 minute walks round the Sidney Street area looking at the past,present and potential of this evolving area tucked away between Meadowhead and Little Sheffield.An area of cutlery, coffee shops and corner pubs.In conjunction with Bloc Projects ‘An Open Ground’ with film,photographs and stories.Walks at 13-00 -15-00 -17-00. ‘An Open Ground’ starts at 12-00 Block St Projects , 4 Sylvester St S1 4 AN
SUNDAY 10TH SEPTEMBER
A walk round the unique Victorian Military Complex that is Hillsborough Barracks with its Gravestones, Detention Cells, links with the Indian Mutiny, Charge of the Light Brigade, Great Flood of 1864 and Forgotten VC. Meet outside Hillsborough Interchange -Turret Side 12-00 till 13-30.
Want to buy a South Yorkshire castle? The land on which stands the motte and bailey site called Bailey Hill behind St Nicholas Church at High Bradfield is on the market by the agents Fischer and German of Retford, Notts. Its not clear who owns the land which I understand is being offered for grazing. The earthworks are a protected Ancient Monument. See the attached wonderful photograph of the Motte supplied by my old mate Malcolm Nunn of Bradford Parish Council and dated 1903
Saturday the 12th December 2015 sees the 75th Anniversary of Operation Crucible – The Sheffield Blitz.
Join Ron Clayton at 1800 Hours by the City Hall Steps for an illustrated walk round the city centre to relive the events of a night etched in Sheffield’s history finishing with the laying of a floral tribute by the Marples Hotel in Fitzalan Square at 2000 hours.
